You Need More Than English Language

Looking at the title of this article may make you a little bit intimidated. Why do I say so? The title has described clearly that it isn’t enough for todays situation, if you just master the English language. So, how it could be if you don’t even master the English language? So, actually the goal of this article, which the title is “You Need More Than English Language”, is to motivate you, spesifically students in order to begin learning English language.

My Experience Learning English Language

For the article is to motivate students and teenagers in order to love learning English language, then I like to start this with my own experience learning English. 

Used to, officially English began to be learned in Junior High School. Unfortunately, I spent my three years old in Junior High School without learning the English subject because there wasn’t an English teacher found at that time in my remote village. So, I started learning English when I attended my Senior High School at 1996 in Makassar

On the day one, I got surprised at that time when almost all of my classmates spoke English with my English teacher. I really didn’t understand anything in my first day learning English in my class at that time. This made me feel guilty and foolish. But with my English teacher’s helped,  I motivated myself to learn English in my own way – (You can see my complete tips in learning English by visiting my personal blog at https://sparlastudio46.blogspot.com)  I started to read The Jakarta Post newspaper and collected every difficults words I found in the newspaper. Then I tried to use those words in making a new simple sentence. I did it frequently until I unconsciously spoke English for the very first time with my English teacher in our classroom a year later.E

English Language Nowadays

Nowadays, more and more people realize that English language is very important for their life. In our country English, officially, start studying at Junior High School according to school syllabus. But unofficially, many schools nowadys applied learning English since in the Elementary school as a local content subject. Even a small part of Indonesian parents let their children start to learn English since in the eary age. We can take a look for some Indonesian artists who let their children to start learning English since in the toddler ages.

The Advantage of Mastering English Language

In my opionion, this is the reason why most people are eager learning English. There are many advantages which will be obtained when mastering English language :

a.       English is the Language of Knowledge

Students who want to study abroad must prepare their English better because they have to follow some standardization tests in order to be rated as feasible studying abroad. They also need to prepare English for their daily spoken language in their international school communication.

b.      English is the Language of Business

The correspondence in business world also used the English language. Since the beginning of business meeting with overseas countries until the writing of MOU letter, all use English language.

c.       English Language Is a Global Communication Language

No body can deny this truth. English is a widly spokeng language talked by all people in the planet. You use English language when you want to talk with someone from another country.

Those facts which was described above may have motivated you to learn English. Used to, I was also motivated by these simple facts, and I have been learning English ever since. But now I feel that this is not enough. In this global worlds, it is not enough if you just master the English language. You need another language too for your better future.

Let’s Just take a look in to yourself. Do you like watching Korean dramas or Japan animes? Do you like listening korean songs? If your answer is yes, then you need more than English language. You need to speak Korean language too in order to get involved deeper with the K-POP singers. But, is it a must to learn Korean if I just fond of Korean songs?

I need to explain the importance of other language beside English. Here are three reasons :

Ethnocentric Reason

Ethoncentrism refers to a term which believes if people, customs, language, traditions or ones nations are better than the others. This ethnocentric feelings may cause that your English is not so useful when you are dealing with these people or nations. People in this ethnocentric countries do not really like to learn other language, so you need to learn their local language too to have a better communication with them.

Additional Benefits to Master Other International Language Beside English

Another advantage to have another foreign language beside English:

Increase Your Intelligence

This could be a fact that those who have mastered more than one of foreign language tend tobe smarter looking than the others who just master one foreign language. Let’s take a look at Fiki Naki, an Indonesian youtuber with his omeTV contents. Fiki Naki can speak more then three foreign languages

Easier to Learn Another Foreign Language

When you have already finished learning English language, then it will be easier for you to learn another foreign language too. This is a good opportunity for you to learn another foreign language to increase your credibility

From the backgrounds and the description above, finally we know that how important the English language is. In this global world, people may get connected in many fields, in business, in education, in politics, in economic and much more. Unfortunately, in these connection we are just helped by one international language, that is English language. But to get more closer relationship with another nation or country, we need to learn more foreign language to facilitate us in doing our jobs or other neccesities.
